!!! DJ Urb Breaks The World Record for Longest Club DJ Mix !!!DJ Urb aka Dominic Lynch (24) has successfully trounced the current Guinness World Record of 84 hrs (3 ½ days) for the longest non stop DJ club mix. Spinning a total of 1155 vinyl's at the Fiddlers Elbow, Urb achieved a marathon non stop time in excess of 100 hrs (4 days plus). Guinness rules only permitted a 15 min break every 8 hrs, a maximum silence of 10 seconds in between tunes and no repeats within a 4hr period. (started noon Wed 18.01.06 - finished* 12 midnight Sat 21.01.06….*broke record & carried on into Sunday evening to set new time.) His witnessing audience were treated to a mix of music probably never before heard together for what was really one long party session and included DNB (Drum n' Bass), Reggae, Ska, House, Hip Hop, Funk, Breakbeat, Techno, Trance, Soul, 70's Disco, Rock , Jazz and Blues. Only Urb could get away with entertaining an audience with such a variety and entertained they were day after night after day after night. Urb's record attempt started at 12 noon on Wed 19th January 2006 and on the Thursday evening the audience were doubly treated as members of the Unity Rock Club joined Urb on stage and jammed along to his music mix. Catering and refreshments to sustain Urb were mainly pasta based and backed up by copious amounts of bananas and still water provided by sister Klayr and the family boss who became known as DJ Mum. and doesn't want to name any for fear of missing someone out but. Urb admits to owing a lot of people a great big thank you. Most of them are part of local music collectives Playskool, System Abuse, Unity and Muddy Arts & Promotions who helped prepare the event, took time off work to be around in the 'wee' hours when the public were not permitted to attend due to the licensing laws, and who cajoled and encouraged Urb throughout. Particular thanks must go to Ian Coleman the landlord of Fiddlers Elbow who not only provided the venue at no cost but was often to be seen achieving his own mini marathon for attendance. Various back up staff actually dropped by the wayside through illness and fatigue and one of Urb's regrets is that they were not able to be in attendance at the end having put so much time and effort into helping him achieve his goal. And what a goal! When the existing record of 84 hrs was broken around midnight on Saturday there were many many tears being shed amongst the dancing audience who lifted their hearts and voices to a level not heard on many football terraces. We've got an exclusive clip of the very moment here. He is now undertaking some rest & recuperation for the aches and pains that crept in towards the end. Backache and leg cramps were ably treated by massages from sister Klayr and mum, the family back up team and also DJ Dad administered the painkillers that DJ Mum told him to. Lots of evidence is obviously required to validate the record attempt and this has been achieved by continuous video recording of Urb mixing, video recording on DVD of the audience area to prove an audience were in attendance throughout and all the 1155 tracks played were recorded as well. Visitors were asked to sign a witness sheet and finally every track played was listed, timed and documented. All the evidence is being collated and will be submitted shortly to the Guinness Record organisation for ratifying. All donations that visitors made to the event will go to St Theresa Day Centre, Peterborough Including donations from local sponsors, Oracle Security Systems, Growsystems & Minuteman Press. In addition to all the stuff on this site there's been loads of other coverage, check it out. There's an article on Dogs on Acid, in the Evening Telegraph, The Unity Site, our own forum and loads of other links. |

Day 5Urbs made it, and he's still going. Has anyone told him he's already smashed the record? Urb's gonna own this record. Aside from a touch of disorientation and some quite remarkable 'sleep mixing' (picture to the right), he's on his feet and mixing fine. The official times and confirmations are yet to be done |

Day TwoThings are picking up a bit now! Urb's been mixing 34 hours from the photo on the left, but he looks the same as when he started, he's even smiling more! Clearly sleep holds no meaning for this soldier.Unity is here today, and with the live percussion jam and the throung of people, there's definatally a good atmosphere building. Urbs been dropping some proper house rhythm's for the Unity crowd and their loving it.

Day OneWell, here we are, Urb's off to a great start. The mug shot to the left was taken 9 hours into the attempt, and he's still looking quite fresh. Bet that doesn't last! It's a fairly quite start to the proceedings, so Urb's responding by playing a truely randon selection, I've heard Reggae, House and breaks already tonight and from the looks of it, Urb's taking requests!

Yes, thats right, starting at noon on Wednesday 18th January 2006 DJ Urb will be attempting to smash
the world record for the longest club mix! The record currently stands at 84 hours (3 1/2 days), but we've got a
feeling Urb's gonna smash it.
It's all going off at The Fiddlers Elbow (King Street, Peterborough,
map), although The Fiddlers Elbow is only open to the public 11am to 2 am,
and Urb'll be mixing NON STOP until Sunday, if he don't pass out first. What sort of music is he dropping, well suffice to say
he'll need every piece of vinyl he can find! During the 4 days you'll hear a mixture of Drum n Bass (of course),
Reggae, Hip Hop and House. And that's not all, the observant among you will realise that Unity is on a Thursday night at The Fiddlers Elbow, so what are we gonna do then? Stop the record attempt? Not bloody likely! Cancel Unity? No! How about a massive live jam session while Urb mixes on? Lovely!!! |
